Batter Up!! For Books!

March 4th is the start of Batter Up!!! for Books! Northfield Community School is competing against Major League Baseball! Well, sort of… we’re trying to beat the record of most runs scored in a season by a team by earning runs for reading books. The record was set in 1894 when the Boston Beaneaters scored 1,220 runs.

Our Goal: For each ‘league’ to beat the record by reading enough books to earn 1,221 runs, between March 4th - 15th.

Students' Goal: Read books for your class ‘team’.

  • For PreK-2nd grade students: 4 easy readers or 40 pages in a chapter book = 1 run
  • For 3rd - 4th grade students: 80 pages = 1 run
  • For 5th - 8th grade students 120 pages = 1 run

Please note: Books can be read to the younger students to count toward the runs. They do not have to read the books themselves.

Please email if you have any questions.

Summer Reading Book Fair
Our Summer Reading Book Fair has begun. Shop at from June 1 through the 14th. Books are great gifts for graduation or moving up! Use the tools on the site to find books at various reading levels and interests. Also use the various teacher recommendations as well as my own!
A New Type of Book Fair - Shop from Home!
I have some great news for our school. In addition to our Scholastic Book Fair, we are having a new type of book fair that will excite, motivate and encourage students and parents to explore reading.
We all understand the critical role that strong literacy skills play in every child’s success. We can all inspire our children to discover and explore the world through their development of strong reading habits. Your children have a wide range of reading skills and a vast array of interests. That’s why we have partnered with a new Book Fair company that I think you will welcome. Big Noodle Books allows our students to explore thousands of titles within their skill level and interest. Parents and students will be able to go to a website and shop from home. Books will be delivered to the home at a minimal cost ($4.00 delivery, no matter how much you order).
Watch for more information coming home with your children soon!
